VALDEZ
There is only one road in and out of Valdez and it is another fishing town. The town itself was tiny and there wasn't much to it - the marina however was not disappointing. We walked around it for ages checking out all the boats and there were a few seals lazing around and a couple of sea otters. Janelle brought a fishing rod as there were lots of Salmon in the marina getting ready to spawn. We stayed here for two nights - we all really wanted to take a boat out to the Columbus glacier which is a huge glacier that comes off the mountains and into the sea. You can rent kayaks and kayak around the big ice burgs which would have been amazing! Unfortunately most of the tourist boats had stopped for the season and it was really really windy so no boats would go out... next time maybe!
Here is Valdez....

A few marina pics...

Reon with his dream boat!

A seal lazing around...

This sea otter was so cute! It was getting sea shells from the side of the dock and chowing out!

The fishing is great in Valdez Alaska!

Janelle with her fishing rod!

You can kinda get an idea of how many Salmon there were from this pic!

Janelle would snag a fish and then Rene would help her pull it up the bank!

This was the one she kept...

Mmm yummy!

Cavier anyone??

Janelle baked the Salmon in the oven with garlic, teriyaki and soy sauce!

This is were the oil pipeline stops - just across the harbor from Valdez. We drove over to it but since September 11 you can't get anywhere close to it.
