DENALI NATIONAL PARK - PART I
Denali Park was one of our favourite places probably a big factor was because we had awesome weather. A big high came over Alaksa in September and this is where we were for it - not a bad place to be!
No cars are allowed in this park so you have to catch a bus. You can go in and out in one day or you can stay at there many camp grounds they have in the park. If you are staying you catch what they call the 'camper bus' - you put all your gear in the back of the bus and then take a seat. You can get off at any time to do a hike and then flag down another bus coming along the road that will pick you up, you do have to stay in the camping grounds though but you can hike anywhere.
Here's our trip...
Up bright and early to catch our bus. We really weren't prepared for this trip camping gear wise. No one except Dan had a pack so we had things in plastic bags, our pots and pans in our sleeping bag covers etc - we must have looked crazy!
This was the bus we caught...
Early morning fog out the bus window...
Gorgeous colours!
The bus stopped all along the way so that everyone could get out stretch there legs and enjoy the scenery...
Our first spotting of some bears!
A bus up ahead of us...
A moose antler - it was so heavy!
More bears - a mama and two cubs.
Another grizzly...
More gorgeous scenery!
We stopped to watch some grizzlies play in this puddle just off the side of the road. It was so awesome!
Reon and I with a gorgeous back drop!
Mt Mckinley - the highest Mountain in North America.
Steve I took this one for you - this information centre was built into the hill - pretty cool architecture!
Moose antlers locked together. In the rutting season this can happen and since they can't get them unlocked they have no way of getting food.
Mel this ones for you! A quilt of Mt McKinley - awesome aye!

Beautiful pictures, we have been over the very same road. You got a better view of Mt. McKinley than we did. I wouldn't take anything for our trip to Alaska.
Loving the quilt, that's a serious amount of work.
Why is it that mother bears are always Mama bear and never mummy or mommy bears?
Mel you inquisitive person! Mummy bears just sound wrong I don't think it sounds tough enough where as Mama is tough... doesn't Kaisha call you Mama? Haha! xxoo
Wow! They have so much real estate up there they have to stack it up! Never been to Denali. Drove out of Anchorage half way to Wasilla and turned around. We hadn't noticed it was almost midnight.
Hi Carol and Mary! Glad you're following the blog - hope you enjoy it! We are hoping to get over to see you sometime next year! Luv Andrea
